Thermal Therapy:

Thermal therapy is an alternative to radiation therapy, a necessary step to ensure ablation of cancer, after breast surgery called lumpectomy.  Thermal Therapy consist of a balloon which is placed at the center of the lumpectomy site immediately after surgery, the balloon is filled with a fluid and then fluid is heated to kill any additional cancer cells.  The patient does not have to endure radiation to her entire breast or make multiple trips to the hospital to complete her therapy.  This takes place once, offers excellent cosmetic results and since heat is being used, versus radiation, is completely safe.  Dr. Dowlat is currently testing this technique to offer his patients an alternative to radiation therapy.
